Come Join Us!

Kawaikini Canoe Club encourages all men & women to come join us at the Wailua River for recreational or competitive outrigger canoe paddling.  For more information call Dawn at 823-8878.

How Do I Start?

Do I have to Join to come paddle with Kawaikini?

Kawaikini hopes everyone will come and "try us out" first.  You need not pay dues until after 2 weeks when we hope you will decide to stay with our club.

Who do I pay my fees to?

You can pay your fees directly to any Board Member (Cash or Check). Checks must be written out to Kawaikini Canoe Club.

What do I need to wear/Bring?

Summer: Light shirt and shorts, sunglasses, slippers, and sunscreen.
Winter: Avoid cotton. You need to layer to maximize comfort and mobility. We strongly suggest that you bring a change of clothes to each off-season practice.
Waiver:  Please print out and sign the Adult Waiver and bring it with you the first time you join us... even as a guest.

When can I come to practice?

You can come to any practices.  Schedule listed below.

Do I need my own paddle?

Our club will you loan you a paddle if you call Dawn at 823-8778 or email at kauaidawn@hawaii.rr.com before you come to paddle with us.

Do I have to race?

Racing is an optional part of rec/novice outrigger program. However, if you are interested in moving up to the competitive level, it is strongly recommended that you participate in all practices!

Paddling Days

Kawaikini meets every Tuesday and Thursday anytime between 4:30 & 5:30pm.

This year Kawaikini will be focused on Regatta Season. Practices starting February and Regattas from May-August, and then specialty races from August - September.  September - December is our time to enjoy the paddling experience and work on techniques recognized during the racing season.

We also meet on Sundays at 8:30.  This is an instructional day for all members followed by a relaxed paddle for those that are in the competitive program and for those that are not. Also, this day we meet afterwards at Olympic Cafe for Bloody Mary Sunday and breakfast most weeks.

All paddlers are welcome. Members are assigned as much as possible into canoes as cruiser or competitive preference.  If you are looking to see if you would like to join us this is the best day for guests as weekdays are reserved for our race practice.  We welcome people to come for 2 weeks as a guest before they are encouraged to join Kawaikini Canoe Club.
